Access For People With Disabilities

Physical access

Wheelchair access is available at Beerwah, Caloundra, Coolum Beach, Kawana, Maleny, Maroochydore, Nambour (ground floor), and Noosa. Access to the Bill Robinson Reading Room at Nambour Library is through the staff workroom off the external walkway above the courtyard. Kenilworth Library is wheelchair accessible from the rear of the building, and the Mobile Libraries incorporate wheelchair lifts.

Adaptive technology

Sunshine Coast Libraries has a range of adaptive technologies available to assist people with disabilities to utilise the library's services and facilities. Technology available varies between branches but includes: CCTVs (magnify any type of text or item), Kurzweil (scans printed text, displays it on a computer screen and reads it aloud), and various other facilities such as larger catalogue font, height-adjustable desk, larger computer screen and adaptive mouse.

The provision of these items was made possible through a number of grant projects, including Gambling Community Benefit Fund, in partnership with Blind and Vision Impaired Network (VIPNet Inc), and a State Library of Queensland Innovation grant.

For more information, please ask at your local library.
